WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new guest calling feature that could allow people without a WhatsApp account to join WhatsApp calls. The feature is expected to let users participate in conversations through a web browser without installing the app or creating an account.
At present, individuals who lack the WhatsApp app or an account are unable to participate in WhatsApp calls. However, the guest call feature, which is coming soon, is expected to help out in that regard.
WhatsApp May Let Non-Users Join Calls Through Guest Links
According to WABetaInfo, the messaging app is reportedly working on guest calling features that may give non-users of the app permission to participate in the calls through a link. The feature, which is supposed to rely on the guest chat functionality of the app, is supposed to make it easy for users of WhatsApp to call those who have no WhatsApp accounts.
With this new feature, the host is going to generate a call link in the Calls tab section. They will then choose the type of call and get the link shared with the others.
Those who don’t have WhatsApp accounts will allegedly be able to access the link via the browser and take part in the call as guests without downloading or setting up an account.
Host Approval and Encryption Expected
According to the report, the host would be responsible for approving each of the guests’ requests to join the call. It would include support for end-to-end encryption.
The host would have control over the participants during the conversation by adding, removing, and terminating the call for all.
Guest Calls Feature Still Under Development
The guest calling feature is still in its developmental stage, hence not available for testing as of now. The application is set to include the feature in one of its upcoming updates.
