Apple has just released iOS 27.0.1 for iPhone on Monday. It addresses three problems that have been found in iOS 27, which was released recently this month: unintended device reboots following failed Face ID verification, colour distortions in certain images, and unresponsive touch screens.
What Does iOS 27.0.1 Fix?
Some of the fixes by Apple include:
- Face ID: An unexpected restart may occur on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max if Face ID authentication fails.
- Camera: There have been a few iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max phones that would display a color artifact when taking 2x photos at f/1.48.
- Touchscreen: Simultaneous opening of Notification Center and Control Center would render the screen unresponsive.
However, news about this Face ID bug suggests that a failed attempt will freeze your phone until it starts back up and brings you back to the lock screen.
This Face ID bug became particularly evident while trying to unlock apps that use face recognition, such as Passwords, private Safari tabs, and others.
These new versions of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max were announced at the beginning of the month and featured a new Face ID mechanism, with an infrared camera placed under the display close to the status bar, which provides a shorter Dynamic Island.
Moreover, the release notes by Apple do not always cover all changes introduced in updates, so iOS 27.0.1 may include other fixes as well.
How to Install iOS 27.0.1
You will have to go to Settings > General > Software Update on your iPhone. It is recommended by Apple that you connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi and a power outlet before installation.
