According to reports, Apple Inc. is working with the LG Group to develop a set of smart home devices. The new set could consist of a smart doorbell, a smart thermostat, a smart lock, and some security cameras.
LG is thought to be the brand name on the devices, but Apple can control all aspects of designing the devices, including engineering.
New Devices Could Work With Apple’s Smart Home Hub
Bloomberg reports, based on anonymous sources, that the accessories will be compatible with Apple’s next-generation smart home hub, a refreshed HomePod mini, and a new TV set-top box.
Apple is slated to introduce the smart home hub, in addition to the second-generation HomePod mini and the Apple TV 4K refresh, on October 13. The hub reportedly sports a 6-inch square display and an AI-driven Siri experience.
Among the LG products mentioned are:
- Wired video doorbell
- Smart thermostat and temperature sensor
- Smart deadbolt lock
- Indoor and outdoor security cameras
- Floodlight camera
The report indicates that the development of the accessories by LG is proceeding more slowly compared to the development of Apple’s products. The accessories are not expected to be available for purchase for a few more months.
Connectivity and Smart Lock Features
According to some sources, LG has filed applications for upcoming smart home devices in order to receive regulatory approvals. The devices include the LG Video Doorbell Wired, Floodlight Cam, Outdoor and Indoor Cameras, Smart Deadbolt Lock, Smart Thermostat, and Temperature Sensor.
The devices are expected to be compatible with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, and Matter. The smart lock can also use UWB in order to unlock itself automatically.
Apple’s Smart Home Expansion
These gadgets would help build upon the HomeKit ecosystem, which is part of Apple’s vision to integrate smart home hardware with Siri and other AI capabilities. The company may have some competitors like Amazon’s Ring and Google’s Nest offerings.
Apple rolled out its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, together with the iPhone 18 Pro range last month during its “Surprise and Shine” event. More announcements are expected from the firm on October 13, which could include new smart home gadgets.
