As part of its recent releases of the iPhone 18 Pro range, Apple has rolled out its first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo. The tech firm is now allegedly gearing up to release its first-ever smart home display.
The forthcoming device may resemble Amazon’s Echo Show series, but it will come with more sophisticated technology like face recognition capabilities.
There has been no official announcement from Apple regarding its release date.
Apple Smart Home Display Launch Timeline
In his latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg writes that Apple can unveil its smart home display sooner than expected.
The device apparently goes by the codename J490. The smart display is purportedly being tested out in the houses of Apple employees before its official unveiling.
In Gurman’s opinion, the smart display is one of the highly anticipated product launches of Apple’s Chief Design Officer, John Ternus, along with the iPhone Duo and touchscreen MacBook.
Apple Smart Home Display Features
The smart home display by Apple would reportedly use the company’s technology, Siri AI. It might run on a new operating system created specifically for Siri AI.
The display would reportedly come equipped with an advanced display, a camera, and microphones. The device’s interface would reportedly incorporate features from iOS, tvOS, and watchOS. It might also communicate with an iPhone for certain purposes like setup.
Siri could be accessed via the home hub to search for data on their Apple accounts and devices. For instance, users could look for specific photos, listen to music or podcasts, and do certain tasks through certain apps like Notes, Reminders, and Calendar.
The Siri AI app would also be capable of doing complex searches via the Apple-developed interface.
The smart display might also have its own home screen, widgets, and clock faces. It is expected to support Wi-Fi connectivity.
Facial Recognition and Personalised Content
The front-facing camera system can also be one of the significant characteristics of the smart home display designed by Apple. It would be able to identify the user via the Face ID technology used by Apple.
After identifying the user, the device would be able to show personalized content on the screen, such as applications, notes, calendar entries, news, music, and podcasts.
Apple Smart Home Display Design
According to rumours, Apple’s smart home hub will have an almost square screen and can come in two different designs.
While one version might be standing on a stand, the other will mount directly on the wall. The wall-mounting version looks similar to the Amazon Echo Show, but Apple’s screen will be much smaller than Amazon’s screen.
In the stand design, it is similar to the HomePod Mini, but there will be an additional display on it.
Apple is expected to market the device as an intelligent personal hub, which would gather all services and information of their ecosystem into one place.
