As reported, WhatsApp plans to use the AI content label in channel updates on its iOS app, where admins can detect whether the content was generated or edited using AI technology. This feature has been launched among some beta testers, similarly to how it has been rolled out on Android devices.
The implementation of the new label can be useful for WhatsApp channel admins to report on AI content on their channels, especially in countries where the labelling of AI content becomes compulsory.

WhatsApp’s AI content labelling function is currently being rolled out to a select few iOS beta testers via TestFlight, version 26.34.10.70, according to information obtained by WABetaInfo. This new function permits channel admins to flag posts that have been updated with the help of AI-generated media.
The AI label will then become visible to all individuals viewing the channel post and cannot be taken down once flagged.
How the WhatsApp AI Label Works
According to reports, the AI content labelling tool would be available in the context menu of a channel update for the admins. After labelling and confirming it, the update would notify that the media content shared was created and modified using artificial intelligence.
The new feature would include AI-generated content from different sources, which would include Meta AI, ChatGPT, and Gemini. WhatsApp would automatically detect some AI-created media and label it, and the admins would be able to manually label the content.
WhatsApp AI Labels Could Support Global AI Disclosure Rules
The new feature might enable channel admins to adhere to the AI disclosure laws that are prevalent in some countries that mandate the labelling of any AI content.
When the feature is turned on, the WhatsApp app is supposed to display a banner at the top of the channel interface to inform the admins about the need for this step.
The purpose of the AI content label is to help users determine whether the realistic media is AI content or real-life content.

The WhatsApp application launched its AI content labeling function on the Android platform and is now rolling it out on the iOS platform. However, while a few iOS users on the stable version may access the function as the roll-out continues, it is only available to a select few beta testers at this stage.
There has been no indication from WhatsApp yet as to when the function will be accessible to everyone or what other countries might need the function apart from India.
