How WhatsApp Username Reservation Works 

NOTE FOR ALL THE USERS: There is no need to wait until launch to secure your identity on the app. From this week, the company started taking reservations even before launch, since it knew that there would be lots of overlap in names due to the presence of three billion users.

Here’s how you reserve yours: 

1) Make sure that your WhatsApp is up-to-date on your device.

2) Click on Settings > Account > Username.

3) Enter the username that you wish to use. In case you are facing difficulties, there is a built-in generator in WhatsApp that will provide you with suggestions.

4) Confirm, and you have got it!

Some guidelines that you should follow are: 

Your username must be in the range of 3 to 35 characters and have at least one letter, as well as having lowercase letters, numbers, periods, and underscores. 

The username cannot begin with “www.” nor end with things such as “.com”. This is done intentionally to prevent phishing links from being created.
